back to cakes

Já estava com saudades de fazer um destes.
Aqui vai uma espreitadela.
I've been longing to bake another of these for quite a while.

O que é que é bolo? perguntam vocês.
a) Jardim verde de baixo (cerca de 3 kg)
b) Cupcake (cerca de 2 Kg) 
c) Barrete de Chef com cerca de 1 kg.

Wanna know what is cake and what is not?
a) the garden / ground is cake (3kg aprox.)
b) the cupcake (aprox. 2 kg of cake)
c) The Chef's hat (aprox. 1 kg)


Raramente faço os bonecos em bolo. Sobretudo por três razões:

1) Para poder fazer o bolo bem fresquinho, sem grande antecedência, tenho que adiantar outras coisas que não fiquem para a ultima da hora. Estes bonecos são normalmente a primeira coisa que faço.
2) Não gosto de ver os bonecos atravessados pela faca quando é para servir o bolo. Normalmente o boneco é o herói ou o amiguinho preferido da criança aniversariante. Assim, desta forma, os bonecos ficam inteirinhos no final e até podem ficar para recordação..
3) Não menos importante é obviamente o facto de aproveitar o boneco para esconder a estrutura ;-).

I hardly ever make the figures out of cake. Mainly for 3 reasons:

1) I usually bake the whole cake the day before delivery. I like to have it as fresh as possible. After baking and cooling, cakes firm up in the fridge for a couple of hours.
I choose to do all decorations and figures beforehand so that i can leave the actual cake for last. 
2) I really don't like to imagine a knife cutting through the sweet faces of the teddy bears, puppies and the other darling heroes of the cakes I bake. So I'd rather have them uncut at the end. They can even be kept as a souvenir after the cake is eaten.
3) Last but absolutely not least, I use the figures to hide the cake structure ;-)
